WorldRemit was founded in 2010 by Ismail Ahmed, Catherine Wines, and Richard Igoe, after Ismail experienced first-hand the frustrating and expensive process of sending money to relatives in Somaliland using offline, agent-based services.
Together, the team of three developed a digital service that went far beyond removing the “middle agent”. WorldRemit was set-up to give people a quick and safe way of transferring money, help and security when receiving funds, and the means to achieve financial ambitions.
In the last decade, the company has grown exponentially.
Breon Corcoran joined as CEO in 2018, and we now employ around 1,200 people globally, with offices in major cities including London, Denver, Cebu, Krakow and Sydney. We currently have 50 countries sending money to over 150 recipient countries, and we operate in excess of 5,000 transfer corridors.
We’re 100% digital (cashless) for our senders, which makes us more convenient and enhances our security. In 2021 we acquired Sendwave, a mobile app payments service, which has transformed the speed and security of money transfers.
We can’t wait for the next chapter, and for you to play your part in it.
